Constant Innovation and a Diverse Product Range Means Rapitypes Is Set For Success

Based in the East Midlands, Rapitypes specialise in providing advanced manufacturing support to their customers through prototyping and low volume production. During their 25-year operation, they’ve established a strong level of confidence with a variety of customers across all kinds of industries.

Much of the work Rapitypes produce is bespoke, low volume and often innovative. They help their customers every step of the way and take their product ideas from initial design right through to the market, mainly operating in the automotive and medical industries, but also in a variety of other sectors including the gaming and tech industries.

Jon Sharp, Business Development Manager at Rapitypes Limited, expresses the company’s ambition to move deeper into other areas of manufacturing - including aerospace, an area in which Mr. Sharp has a wealth of expertise and experience.

One example of the company’s innovative methods can be seen in the RIM process. RIM (Reaction Injection Moulding) is an effective alternative to standard injection moulding, providing a myriad of benefits like low-cost tooling for large parts (such as bumpers and door panels), short lead-times, and lower energy costs.

Another way in which Rapitypes is leading the field in the low volume industry is through its commitment to developing and implementing new moulding techniques, such as Structural Textures. This process can be applied to RIM and injection mould tools to give a wide range of textures to suit the customer’s ideas, whilst saving the extra costs of adding textures at a later stage.

Rapitypes and its sister company, Renfrew Group International are also active in terms of exporting. “We do a lot of work for businesses in Silicon Valley with augmented reality,” says Mr. Sharp, going on to explain how Industry 4.0 practices are opening up a lot of opportunities for vastly improved product workflows and maintenance assistance.

Mr. Sharp is also an avid believer in networking. He states: “I always like to see who’s about and what they’re doing; it’s good to keep your finger on the pulse to benefit our customers - whatever industry they’re in.”
