Despite the uncertainty over Brexit affecting the economy, extruded gasket manufacturer EMKA Profiles is continuing to grow its turnover and looking forward with confidence.
EMKA Profiles produces extruded gasket profiles for the automotive and industrial markets using EPDM, thermoplastics, PVC and profiles with metal lamination.
Based in Birmingham, EMKA Profiles is part of the EMKA Group, a German company with 2,100 employees in 52 countries that makes locking systems, hinges and sealings, which are used in cabinets and control cabinets for electronics and electrical engineering. The Group also includes EMKA UK, which sells gasketing products as well as the entire EMKA product range, which numbers more than 15,000 in the standard range.
In addition to gaskets, EMKA Profiles produce customer-specific designs. “If a customer has a specific problem that they need solving, we can create a profile that will resolve it,” said Andy Billingham, managing director of EMKA UK.
This includes using different materials or compounds – such as ones that are fire-resistant, which is increasingly popular among customers, Billingham added.
EMKA Profiles is constantly introducing new products to the market, Billingham added. It is this process of innovation that is helping the company to grow its turnover year-on-year.
This growth comes despite the uncertainty over Brexit, with some international companies considering moving away from English manufacturers because of concerns at what the future trading relationship will be.
“Our customers are just busy,” he says. “They aren’t stockpiling – it’s not the industry to do this – products are produced to order, and we can supply when they need it.
“We hold a lot by our quality and our ability to supply.”
EMKA Profiles will be exhibiting at the forthcoming Made in the Midlands Expo at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on June 20, showing off a range of the gaskets it makes. EMKA UK will also be there, showcasing the range of EMKA products.Back
