Visitor-ready floors two years after the digital launch

16 August 2022

On 16 August 2022 the hall team marked two years from the Backing Britain Live launch by treating the physical floor as the product. The digital fortnight in 2020 had been the right call. It had also trained some of us to talk about booths as if they were only screens.

That Tuesday the job was concrete. Seal the vinyl, square the gangways, and make sure an exhibitor stand could take a pallet truck without the fascia shivering. Visitor-ready floors sound like hospitality language. In a Midlands hall they are a safety and sales issue: oil haze and tape tails send a buyer to the next bay.

We invited a handful of manufacturers who had shipped kit in 2020 to walk the empty plate. Their notes were practical: crate turning circles, power drops, and where a seminar overflow would scuff the same aisle twice in an afternoon.

The date was chosen on purpose, one day shy of the 17th August anniversary, so the team would remember the hybrid launch without turning it into a ceremony. The work was the commemoration.
